These rotary retorts are used to turn cans or other
containers during sterilization and cooling. The purpose is to move the food
contents in order to accelerate the heat transfer inside the can, improve the
quality and prevent any possible negative effect associated to the static
heating processes.
Surdry
rotary retorts feature a robust design modeled by FEM analysis. The baskets or
stacks of trays are clamped individually to ensure that the load is well
supported with no damage to the containers or baskets and trays. The clamping
mechanisms as well as other moving parts like rotor shaft or supporting rollers
(trunnions) are designed for heavy duty and long life.
Rigid
packs, like cans, jars or bottles, are loaded in baskets with a perforated
divider pad between the layers of packs. The layer dividers are perforated
sheets made of plastic or other materials.
Flexible
packs made of plastic or aluminum films, like pouches, thermoformed trays and
bowls would not resist the weight of the layers above so they can only be
loaded in individual layers on individual retort trays.
Rotary
retorts can also be used in oscillating mode for use with pouches and similar
shape containers to reduce the cost of complex trays for full rotation.
